Editor Michael Bracken seeks contemporary hardboiled and noir detective stories featuring Texan private eyes for the 2019 anthology The Eyes of Texas. Stories should take place in Texas, although brief forays into other parts of Texarkana or across the border in Mexico are fine if they make sense as part of the overall plot.

Bracken wants stories of around 5,000 words that “represent the cultural, ethnic, gender, and political differences found throughout the state.” Pays royalties. … Read more

Chicken Soup for the Soul wants nonfiction stories and poems for its upcoming book about finding—and holding onto—romantic love. They’re wide open to different takes on this subject, from crazy dating adventures to “amazing coincidences that led to you meeting your soul mate” to finding love again after a divorce or breakup. Stories should be true, although writers may use pen names.
